This winter Olympics measurement unit is designed to introduce students to measuring using non-standard units. The students use paper plates, Frisbees, laundry baskets, and themselves to “compete” in the “Measurement Olympics.” You will use gold medals as your non-standard unit of measure. This unit also provides a great way to teach students about sportsmanship. Record answers on individual recording sheets and on class charts for each event. To supplement this unit, you can show clips of the actual Olympic events! To supplement this unit you can show clips of the actual Olympic events and use our Winter Games Research Creation!
