Embedded Mnemonics: Alphabet Sound Flashcards (44 Sounds)
These sounds flashcards use embedded mnemonics to help students learn sounds and spelling patterns faster and more easily by creating a visual and/or auditory connection between the letter and a familiar image or sound.
Kids remember things better and more easily map things into memory when they are connected to other things that they know and that are meaningful to them. This essentially helps anchor the letter/sound/spelling patterns to a mental picture that the students can easily recall. Each word/picture/mnemonic was intentionally chosen to align with the science of reading research.
These science of reading-aligned sound flashcards are perfect for whole-group lessons, small-group lessons, and centers. These can be used for games, explicit phonics instruction, review and more! Each mnemonic should be explicity taught!
Two versions of the alphabet cards are included:
Version 1: Includes lowercase mnemonics for 44 sounds with multiple spelling patterns (NOTE: this is not inclusive of every possible spelling pattern but a comprehensive set of spelling patterns for elementary classrooms)
Version 2: Includes object cards (just images) for each sound
These will be available as a hard good early in 2026!
